CORPORATE IDENTITY DESIGN: STUDIO

This project was to create a set of branding materials for Studio.
Studio is a cutting edge, cool, nationally-renowned school with a reputation which rivals and exceeds SVA, The New School, and Stanford's D-School. It needs to differentiate itself as a stand-alone school but not just being a part of CU Boulder.
Studio defines itself as a collective of thinkers and doers who innovate at the crossroads of collective creativity, technology and design.
The master's program that we are studying right now is one sub-brand of Studio. So, we are somehow a part of this brand here. Therefore, when I was conceiving the design, I was also thinking about how I want people to think about me, a student, a small part of Studio. Studio will represend me in a way too.
Then this was the word list that I came up with.

Then I chose these three words as my tone words of the brand



According to the tone words and the letters of "Studio", I drew some logo sketches.

Then I got my first two design concepts developed from the sketches.
Based on the feedback that I got, I focused on developing the the first concept by adding a logotype to go with the logo mark and making some changes to make its look less feel like MIT's ( well, I didn't realize that or even thought about MIT's when I was designing the logo ). And here are the second round logos.
It seemed like a lot of classmates liked the concept 2 more based on the notes that I got in the class. I don't know if it was because they really prefer the concept 2 or I had already shown the original version of concept 1 last time that they felt like there was nothing they could give feedback about anymore. Well, I would like to believe in the later case because I like the concept 1 more, haha. I felt like it is more unique and creative and giving people some imagination space which is also a very important thing for what we do here in Studio.
So, I just believed in myself and kept going with that concept, and have this final version of the corporate identity design for Studio with the mockups of different media.
















I also did some animated posters in Power Point and just found a way to transfer them into videos. But since the blog doesn't let me upload my videos, please see them in the mockup website Studio.
