At the class last week, we took our 25 book cover sketches with a partner to discuss which ones are the best of them. I showed Ty my sketches, he liked several of them, and we pick these three to refine in the computer.

And these are the digital versions of them:

This was my first time to use Indesign to do it. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to use the software. Also, I had a hard time trying to get the right yellow color that I wanted to use in my second design (the dots one). Because I hand drew it with color pencils, when I took the picture of it, it just wouldn't come out as the same color as the drawing. I tried several ways, but still couldn't get it right. So, I just use that color. Actually, I was thinking about having a version of hand drawing background. But, I didn't have enough time to do it. I will try to do that for next week.

I printed them out with my home printer and took them to the class today. Well, the color didn't come out very well. Based on the reviews in the class, they liked the dots one better, but Brizida said I would need to change the fonts. She thought a sans serif as the title would be better, or use a self drawing font. So, I will try to work on the fonts, and also make the book cover more completed with more details. And they also suggested putting the red dot in the middle because it represents Holden staying in the middle of the conflict. But I don't want to do that. I tried to put the red dot in the middle before, but it just didn't look that special and strong as it is at the corner. I think it looks more lonely and sad at the corner, just like how Holden feels. So, I will just leave it there.
